The forgotten archaeology of the 11th century in Scotland

13:00 – 14:00
Wednesday the 8th of May
Perth Museum and Art Gallery (Map Link)

Culture Perth and Kinross and University Of Highland and Island’s Institute for Northern Studies present:

Adrián Maldonado, Glenmorangie Research Fellow at National Museums Scotland, will argue that an entire century has gone missing from the archaeological record in Scotland. The 11th century is the time of Macbeth, Malcolm Canmore, the Battle of Carham and much more. Yet our stylistic categories of ‘Viking Age’ or ‘Romanesque’ tend to favour early or late dates, leaving this century curiously underrepresented in the museum. This is part of what his current project, Creating a Nation: Making a Medieval Kingdom is trying to redress.
